If you were just beginning to wrap your head around the fact that Austin Mahone and Camila Cabello are dating, it's a little too late. In a radio interview on Monday with KISS 96.1, Fifth Harmony's Cabello confirmed she and Mahone broke up. Wow, that was fast! Considering it was only a few weeks ago they adorably announced their relationship, this seems a bit sad that it ended before it really began. If you're like me and feel way too old (aka you don't even really know who these two are), it'll be OK. At least now we don't have to try and come up with some clever couple name for them. (Camstin? Mahbello?) In fact, it'll be more than OK, since Cabello has a great attitude about the split. She told the radio station, "We're actually not together anymore. Hey, things happen."
Apparently she didn't divulge too many details about why they actually split, but did say it happened recently. Certainly not helping any residual heart break, Mahone gushed about Cabello in the December/January issue of Teen Vogue, saying:
She’s an amazing girl, and we have the best time together … I wasn’t looking for a relationship, but we became really good friends when we were on tour.
Considering it's not even December yet, it's slightly awk that the story will be on newsstands for at least another month. Seeing photos of your ex pop up on Facebook sucks enough for ordinary people dealing with break-ups, but now any time Cabello goes to the grocery store, she'll get to see Mahone's face plastered on a magazine. It's like a sad reminder that the relationship didn't last. While we're unsure why it didn't last, the fact that he originally wasn't looking for a relationship could mean they're better suited as friends. Or maybe things got weird when they finally went public with a relationship they'd kept private for quite awhile. Speculation aside, Cabello seems to be optimistic and understanding about the whole thing. Sometimes relationships just don't work out.
Still, if she's trying to get over the break-up, may I suggest this advice? "Start from scratch / Shake it off like an Etch-a-Sketch." ... OK, if you're a Fifth Harmony fan, you probably caught me. Those are lyrics to "Miss Movin' On," which is actually the perfect song for her to play on repeat now that she's single. Even the title says it all!
Here are a few more songs she can jam out to, because unsurprisingly, 5H has awesome girl power anthems! Whether she's in a relationship or not, Cabello is still a "Bo$$."
And the best formula for getting over a boy? Hanging out with her girls, duh. Karaoke and duck-faced selfies sound like a great game plan, just as "Me & My Girls" suggests:
