'X-Men: Apocalypse' Has Cast Its Villain

by Alanna Bennett

It seems the next villain in X-Men's plan to continue making movies for all eternity has been chosen: Variety reports that Oscar Isaac will play X-Men: Apocalypse 's titular big bad. Combine this with Star Wars and multiple stints in awards-grabbing movies and it's probably safe to say Isaac will be a household name any second now.

Isaac will play En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse, the formidable villain who our mutant heroes will confront in the 1980s. We've explored a bit about Apocalypse previously, but to recap:

En Sabah Nur was the name being chanted in that post-credits scene. He’s a…formidable dude. A 1000-year-old immortal mutant, he was born with gray skin and blue lines on his face. He also has a wide array of powers, from telekinesis (as we witnessed through his pyramid-building skills), invulnerability, teleportation, energy generation, bio-molecular alteration, and that aforementioned immortality, the latter of which can come in handy when it comes to fitting into whatever era X-Men feels like tackling next.

Isaac, for his part, is also one of the new cast members in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Previously he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Inside Llewyn Davis, and this year he's starring opposite Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year . Seems like at this rate, balancing supporting blockbuster turns with starring roles in critical faves? He's on the road to being a major Hollywood staple.
