by Anna Klassen

Well, the cat's out of the bag: Rachel McAdams, who has long been rumored to be joining True Detective Season 2 , has been officially cast. Rachel McAdams will join Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly on the second season of HBO's gritty series. Not only has the Mean Girls actor been cast, but the show has already begun filming its eight-episode season, according to Indiewire.

McAdams will play Ani Bezzerides, the Ventura County Sheriff's detective with a penchant for following the rules and her unyielding ethical viewpoint. Kitsch comes on board as Paul Woodrugh, a veteran of war and a motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol. The last new addition to the cast is Kelly Reilly as Jordan, a former actress.

A press release gave the descriptions of the earlier cast actors:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Justin Lin will direct the first few episodes of the second season, with a log line that follows: "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

Look for True Detective Season 2 next year.
