Just Who Plays Boggs in 'Mockingjay'?

by Allyson Koerner

Mock. Yeah! Ing. Yeah! Jay. Yeah! Taking a note from Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in Dumb Dumber, who can't stop talking or singing about The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 ? Admittedly, I haven't seen it — yet — but that doesn't mean I don't want to or that I'm not qualified to discuss the star-studded cast, which includes the handsome man pictured above. Who is he? Well, that's Mahershala Ali and he plays Boggs aka President Coin's right-hand man and Katniss' personal bodyguard. Were you someone watching the movie, all while trying to rattle your brain about where you've seen Ali before? Luckily, I'm here to let you in on Ali's other TV and film credits.

From playing somewhat enemies to Kevin Spacey's Frank Underwood to starring in a cancelled Syfy drama to getting his "big break" alongside Jill Hennessy, Ali's dabbled in all kinds of small screen projects. That's not to say he hasn't starred in big screen hits (ahem, Hunger Games), like that one movie about a man who ages backwards. What was it called? It starred Brad Pitt. Oh yeah, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. With that said, let's chat Ali's well-respected and successful acting career.

Three Words: House of Cards

Currently, Ali's probably most recognized for his time as Remy Danton in the Netflix hit House of Cards. Not only does he try to manipulate Claire Underwood, he goes head to head with Frank Underwood, and even gets busy with a certain House Majority Whip.

He Once Was a NSA Agent on Alphas

Ali showed his skills as NSA Agent and tactical team leader Nathan Clay on Syfy's Alphas, who saw Alphas as a type of weapons.

Ali Played Taraji's Man and Brad's Father Figure

Here we have Queenie's love aka Benjamin Button's first real father figure. How could we forget Ali as Mr. "Tizzy" Weathers in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button?

Crossing Jordan Doctored Him

You could say this was Ali's first big role. For 19 episodes, he portrayed Dr. Trey Sanders, a conservative medical examiner.

He Showed Off His Telekinesis Skills

Remember The 4400? Yeah? Well, Ali starred in most of the episodes as Richard Tyler, a man who possessed telekinesis powers.

I guess you could say Ali is much more than one tough District 8 guard.
