"Let's never split up again" has got to be the worst jinx in the world. It has defined this season of The Walking Dead on AMC. In the last two seasons, the group of survivors has been thrown apart and put back together multiple times. They left the prison and went their separate ways, only to reunite at Terminus (with the exception of Beth, Carol, and Tyreese). Then, they escaped Terminus and reunited with Carol and Tyreese at Father Gabriel's Church. Now everyone is split up all over again. Glenn and Maggie are off with Abraham, Eugene, Rosita, and Tara. Daryl and Carol ran off in search of Beth and found Noah on their way. Beth, and now Carol, are stuck at Grady Memorial Hospital. Rick, Michonne, Carl, Judith, Sasha, and Tyreese are still at Father Gabriel's Church. Morgan is out there somewhere. We are right back where we were a year ago. Except this time, everyone has at least some idea of where everybody else is. When will the The Walking Dead characters be together again? Next Sunday's episode promises that half of the group at the church will stay there while the other half goes to the hospital to try and break Carol and Beth out. Does this mean the band is getting back together? I looked at where we are in the comics timeline to make some judgements of my own.
Long road to Alexandria
At this point in the graphic novel, Rick should be close to if not at the Alexandria Safe-Zone. They have Gabriel. Morgan is nearby. Everything is coming together to take them to that iconic Walking Dead location. The group is not split up as they make their way North. Abraham did not leave Rick at the church and he helped them take out The Hunters. Also, at this point, Tyreese is long gone, Maggie has a near death experience, and Dale and Andrea are still alive. Beth is an amalgamation of a few characters who are all dead. They've also met Aaron by this point, which we have not yet on the show. Carl killed a living boy named Ben in a scene that heavily resembles when Carol told Lizzie to "look at the flowers" — and a bit like when Carl killed Jody. So take everything with a grain of salt. The series has made a lot of changes. Perhaps it's better to see the group in different dynamics. However, if they're following the general storyline at all, they should get back together pretty soon.
Here's my prediction. Since, thanks to the graphic novel, we know that Rick does embark on the journey to DC, I think Abraham's Group is likely to meet back up with Rick's Group sooner than we think. I don't think we'll see Glenn and Maggie at the hospital, but once Hurricane Grimes blows through Grady Memorial, they'll be on the road again. Eugene mentioned that they weren't too far from the church yet. Either Team Rick will cross paths with them on their own journey after the hospital, or they'll come running back after Eugene's big admission. Which, by the way, Rick and the rest of the group witnessed in the novel. It was one of the biggest moments of the season, and the fallout from that might be was reunites our heroes once again.
