Are 'RHOA' Stars Phaedra & Apollo Divorced Yet?
I can't say that I'm surprised, but that doesn't mean I am any less sad about the fact that The Real Housewives of Atlanta 's Phaedra Parks is seeking a divorce from her husband Apollo Nida. There have only been two episodes of Season 7 of RHOA since it premiered on Nov. 9, and it was very clear from the get-go that Phaedra and Apollo's marriage was about to crumble. Of course a major life event like this was going to be a plot line this season.
In the upcoming episode of RHOA on Nov. 23, things are going to get really serious when Apollo seeks some advice from an attorney about his marriage and what might happen if Phaedra files for divorce. Since this meeting takes place soon after Apollo was sentenced to eight years in prison for fraud in July, he knows he's going to need all the help he can get before he has to serve his jail time. As the attorney says in the clip, if Phaedra files for divorce while Apollo is in prison, she may get the "upper hand."
Possibly unfortunately for Apollo, that's exactly what happened. Apollo surrendered on Sept. 11, 2014, and about a month later, Phaedra's rep confirmed to E! News that she "has retained an attorney with the intent of amicably ending her marriage." Phaedra also confirmed the divorce a few days later when she appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show . Has Phaedra made any progress in finalizing her divorce since then?
Well, it's only been about a month since that announcement was made, and we all know that no legal process moves that quickly in this country. So no, Phaedra and Apollo are still legally married. In fact, Apollo seems intent on getting back together with Phaedra. This is what he had to say in his first interview since entering prison with In Touch Weekly :
“Yes, we’ve had problems — especially over the last year — but we’ve gotten on terms now where I can call her and it’s cordial. I’m hopeful that we can stick things out.”
Hmmm, does that mean there's a possibility of Phaedra and Apollo remaining a couple? Not bloody likely. Phaedra's rep also told In Touch Weekly that the “divorce is proceeding as planned," and "there have been absolutely no discussions about reconciling." That is some sad news for anyone hoping the "donkey booty" duo would be reunited.
From what I can tell from watching this season of RHOA so far, both Phaedra and Apollo seem very hurt by the other's actions and supposed selfishness as they both dealt with Apollo's legal issues. When the season kicked off, Phaedra had basically cut Apollo out of her life, and I don't see a woman as intelligent, stoic, and headstrong as her allowing him back in. Taking into consideration all the dishonesty and immaturity we've seen from Apollo on RHOA, I'd say that's exactly the right decision on Phaedra's part. The couple may not be divorced yet, but it looks like it's only a matter of time.
