Ugly Christmas Sweater Advice From Tay
Oh, ugly Christmas sweaters. They’re basically the hidden (but loved!) gem of the season. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be wearing one to college parties, around your freezing apartment (because it’s still hanging around from that college party), and ironically with your sisters. But, where can we get the inspiration to find the perfect ugly Christmas sweater? Taylor Swift, obviously.
Guys. Taylor Swift is basically Christmas. I mean, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show did invite her back to sing at their super festive angel-winged event for a reason. Her Instagram is filled with tons of festive photos. PLUS, she’s been known to give back to a fan or two. Isn’t that what the season’s all about?
So, maybe Taylor Swift could give us all inspiration on how to master the perfect ugly Christmas sweater? After all, she does own a cat onesie. Besides the completely hilarious outfits she shows us on Instagram, we can also learn a thing or two from all those concert outfits.
Here are eights things Taylor Swift can teach us about mastering the art of the ugly Christmas sweater. And MAYBE — just maybe — she’ll come to my house and bake a batch of Christmas cookies with me.
1. DIY. DIY All The Way
Sure, there are thrift shops filled with those things, but why buy one when you can craft your own sweater? Yarn not optional.
2. CATS
Make sure your sweater has one. Or twenty.
3. More Cats!
She’s really serious about the cat thing here.
4. Or any animal will do, really
But there should 100 percent be an animal on there.
5. Bring Your A Game
There are so many things right about this. The matching! The plaid! The hats! Just hang this photo on your fridge and use it as your holiday inspiration.
6. Bundle Up
It is winter, after all. If your ugly Christmas sweater isn't keeping your toasty, then it's not really doing its job.
7. Add A Funny Hat
It can only make your sweater better.
8. And some fair isle
Duh.
9. Glitter Over Everything
GLITTER. Your ugly Christmas sweater is going to need SO much glitter, be it in the form of rhinestones, studs, or straight up sparkle. T. Swift is never short on it. I mean, she did have a sparky guitar back in the day. To really get into the holiday spirit, just pour a tub of it on your sweater.
10. And as many textures as you can manage
So very grandma chic.
11. As For Colors?
Stick with red. Swift named an album after the color. It’s always been her red carpet go-to, and why not? It’s the most festive color out there. The more red, the merrier.
