Being Sexy Isn't for Gosling

by Allyson Koerner

Tuesday night, the Internet almost broke Kim Kardashian-style when it was announced that Chris Hemsworth was People's Sexiest Man Alive. Some shouted from the rooftops with delight. Others raised their fists and hammers in protest, because they wanted Chris Pratt to receive the almighty honor. Well, now others are chatting about another swoonworthy man losing out on the title — Ryan Gosling. Hey girl, why has this man never been dubbed the worthiness of such sexiness? According to TheWrap, it's because, apparently, Ryan Gosling doesn't want to be known for being sexy.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the actor's supposedly turned down the title on more than one occasion, per an insider "close to the cover negotiations" who spoke with the entertainment outlet. "[People] tried a few times, especially during his huge year in 2011." The sourced added, "The consensus was he's too serious for it, too artsy."

While fans are upset about Gosling's absence from the cover, People's editorial director is not, telling TheWrap, "While I look forward to the day when Ryan Gosling is named Sexiest Man Alive, this was not his year. Our 2014 honoree Chris Hemsworth was our first and only choice. If you want to know why, just look at him. I mean, seriously."

So, is Gosling slamming others who've been on the cover saying that they shouldn't be taken seriously and that their only talent is posing shirtless? No, not necessarily, but as we all know the title is superficial and just a way to gawk at hot men.

If all of this is true, then stop campaigning and whining when he isn't selected. It's not like we can't bask in the hotness that is Ryan Gosling by watching his movies, staring at photos, and watching that scene from The Notebook. Right? It doesn't really matter if he ever becomes the Sexiest Man Alive, because he'll always be sexy with or without a title.
