Bruce Jenner's Mom Is One Honest Lady

by Jamie Primeau

When Bruce and Kris Jenner decided to separate, they showed their family's reaction on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In the typical style of the E! show, we got to see each of their kids respond to the news. However, someone whose opinion hadn't been heard before is that of Bruce's mother, Esther. The Olympic athlete's 88-year-old mom opened up in an interview with the Daily Mail and she did not hold back at all on any topic relating to her son. Bruce Jenner's mom says Kris was a "controlling monster" and her initial reaction to the divorce was, "Hallelujah!" Jeez, tell us how you really feel, huh? In addition to deets about the pair's marriage, she commented on rumors about her son that prove she loves him no matter what.

So how much did Esther share? She agreed when asked if Kris was controlling, saying,

She could insult you with a big smile on her face, I know. What do you do with a person like that? You're going to avoid them if possible. She was backstabbing as far as my grandchildren were concerned, and that is something I can't stand. She's domineering — it's do it her way, or there's no way. I had very little to do with Kris. I stayed away from her as much as I could.

Luckily, not only is Esther happy with the divorce, but Bruce is enjoying life too. His mom says, "He is ecstatically happy right now. When I talk to him I can hear it in his voice and he's spending a lot more time with his kids. I don't think he's a bit lonely. He seems like he's himself again." This is comforting to hear!

An even better part of this interview with his outspoken mother is where she addresses rumors that Bruce may be transitioning into presenting as a woman. She didn't say whether they're true, but what she did say speaks volumes more:

I love him, no matter what. I've brought this up to him on the phone when we've talked and he says, "Mom, you can't believe this stuff." And I said, "Well, I want to tell you one thing, Bruce…[if] it's true or false, it's not going to change my love for you," and it's true, that's exactly how I feel.

That pretty much sounds like the most perfect thing a parent can say in any situation! Granted, she said she thinks his long hair is "ugly," but hey, she's an opinionated lady. So the fact that she says she loves him no matter what means it must really be true that nothing will sway her support of her son. And for that, she deserves applause!
