Is Taylor Swift anything like the characters in The Baby-Sitters Club? Well, I'm glad you asked! In a recent interview with TIME, the 1989 singer says she is "excited" to be a role model for young girls, but she doesn't "feel like [she's] the president of the International Baby-Sitters Club." Whoa. Did she just mention one of the best book series of all time? Yes, she did, which got me thinking, is Taylor Swift anything like any of the Baby-Sitters Club characters? I'm mind-blown by how much Swift has in common with Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, Stacey, Dawn, Mallory, and Jessi.
For those who are too young to know what The Baby-Sitters Club is, or for those who don't remember (shame on you), it's a book series first released in 1986 following a group of motivated young women and their, you guessed it, babysitting club. There was even a movie released in 1995, starring some of the top actresses of the '90s, like Rachel Leigh Cook, Schuyler Fisk, Larisa Oleynik, and Bre Blair. So, just how is Swift similar to these beloved fictional babysitters? From being an artist to being everyone's best friend to living in New York, Swift is so much like these girls, it's kind of scary. With that said, here's how Swift compares to these young woman, and I'm pretty sure it will make you want to go read/re-read the books and watch/re-watch the movie. You're welcome!
Kristy, the Leader
Like Kristy, the president of the club, Swift is also seen as a leader among women and in the music industry. She might not see herself as "the International Baby-Sitters Club" president, but she definitely is a leader in more ways than one.
Claudia, the Artist
Claudia was well-known for her unique style and artistic abilities. Swift, too, is an artist, more in the music sense, but still. She's even admired for her fashion, and I have a feeling she and Claudia would love to go through each other's closets.
Mary Anne, the Best Friend
It's no secret that Swift is seen as the "girl next door" and everyone's best friend, including with her own friends, like Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Lorde. All the characters were BFFs, especially Mary Anne and Kristy, so, yeah, pretty similar to Swift.
Stacey, the New Yorker
Swift might not be originally from New York, like Stacey, but she calls the Big Apple her current home and is not shy to express her love for the city that never sleeps. Maybe she and Stacey could grab a coffee sometime?
Dawn, the Giver
Dawn loved the environment and giving back to others. Swift might not be a self-proclaimed environmentalist, but that doesn't mean she doesn't believe in helping others. A few weeks ago, she promised to donate all proceeds from her "Welcome to New York" song to NYC public schools.
Mallory, the Equestrian
Not only was Mallory a bookworm, but she also loved to ride horses. Hey! Swift does that too, especially in her music videos. Whether it's a real horse, or she's just referencing white horses in her songs, Swift is all about these beautiful creatures.
Jessi, the Dancer
She might not be known for her dance moves, but Swift is not afraid to bust out a move or two, like she did in her "Shake It Off" video, alongside some talented dancers. Jessi could have easily showcased her ballet skills in the video. Next time, Jessi. Next time.
See? Isn't it crazy how much she has in common with these babysitters?
