If NBC happens to break somehow or some way, you know who to blame. According to EW, One Direction just announced an NBC holiday special which will air just before Christmas Eve, and will likely heavily feature material from their upcoming album, Four. That sound you hear right now? The shrill screams of a million preteens as they all try to set their DVRs for this event.
The news was announced on One Direction's official Twitter with a simple message: "1D are excited to announce their first-ever US TV special “ONE DIRECTION: THE TV SPECIAL” airing December 23rd on @NBC!" So far, it's received responses from users such as "IM GONNA CRY," [sic] and "CHRISTMAS IS REAL," so I think it's pretty safe to say that fans are excited. (Unfortunately for those fans outside of the US, it doesn't seem like this special will be airing internationally — but that's what the Internet is for, right?)
As for what One Direction: The TV Special will consist of, there doesn't seem to be much info about that out yet — but I'm pretty convinced that NBC could literally film Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry, and Louis just watching paint dry for like three hours and it would still get monster ratings. However, considering that this is the band's first-ever primetime US special, watching paint dry will probably not be involved over, you know, actual performances.
One Direction: The TV Special will air on Dec. 23.
