Jay Leno's 'Tonight Show' Return Is a Must-See

by Emma Goddard

When talk show hosts retire from their positions — whether someone like Stephen Colbert or someone like Chelsea Handler — to move on to something new, it’s always bittersweet. On one hand, you want that person to stay because you’ve become so used to their work, but, on the other hand, you know that it’s the right time to bring in some fresh material. And though the latter is exactly how most felt when Jimmy Fallon took over The Tonight Show upon Jay Leno’s retirement in February of 2014, there, of course, were no hard feelings between the former and future hosts. In fact, Jay Leno mocked Jimmy Fallon during his first return to The Tonight Show on Friday, and it was all fun and games for both of them.

Leno and Fallon had a good laugh about odd photo shoots they did together in the past — which included one of Leno’s beloved motorcycles — and even interviewed Lucy Liu (aka beautiful goddess) together about her show Elementary. However, the best part was when Liu decided to reminisce on the past, discussing her first interview with Leno, as Fallon looked on with a fake look of discomfort.

“(Jay) knows everything,” Liu said. “And he asks me so many specific questions, it’s awesome,” to which Leno responded with, “It’s called doing your research when your guest is on.”

Everyone ate it up and Fallon took the teasing incredibly well. After all, Leno’s jokes were completely light hearted and even Liu joined in on the fun. Hey, double the comedians means double the jokes — and great ones at that. If NBC has learned anything from this, it’s that Fallon should definitely invite Leno back to the set again in the future.
