Who on Earth Is the Dude in Selena's New Video?

I don't know about you, but when I watched Selena Gomez's newly released "The Heart Wants What It Wants" video on Thursday morning, my thought process went as follows: "Whoa, this song is soooooo obviously about Justin Bieber. Wait. Who's the guy playing "Bieber" in this? He looks kinda Franco-y." Most of what I'd heard about the video so far was that it was super emotional and definitely about Jelena. But the guy! The other guy! Who's he?! Shouldn't Selena date him instead? I knew I couldn't be alone in thinking this, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and find out who the guy is in the "The Heart Wants What It Wants" video.

First, I Googled every combination of the words: "Selena Gomez Heart Wants What It Wants Guy Hot Dude" you can think of. I even looked up the director of the video. Nothing! So then I did what anyone would do: I turned to Twitter. I know that Selena Gomez has a humongous and rabid fan base and that they would be talking about this video like crazy. I was right. But, were they talking about the mystery dude? Hell yeah they were, and they were giving clues as to who exactly this guy is. Not only that, fans had begun "shipping" Selena and her fake Bieber man. I realized that I, too, might be shipping them. This was a new experience for me.

Right?

THE WORLD NEEDS ANSWERS!

Me too, man.

Whoa. OK. Um... let's take it down a notch.

I know this tweet mentioned something about "searching," but due to the lack of punctuation, I knew I needed to click on the Tumblr page this kind person linked to for more information. I'll be honest, I was skeptical about this. I'm not a big Tumblr user, but one of the major things I know about it is that it's full of something called "fandoms" (am I using this word correctly?) and that a Selena fandom isn't a location I was sure I wanted to venture. Would there be creepy Selena Gomez fan-fiction. Or worse, fan art?

Nah. There was just this really blunt and simple answer that didn't provide anymore information than the tweet:

SO WHO IS THE GUY FROM THE SHORT FILM SEARCHING?!?!

That was easy to find out. Google "Selena Gomez Searching" and boom! The dude is named Shiloh Fernandez (Hey! That name sounds familiar!) and Searching is a short black and white film made with Flaunt magazine.

Because I'm an expert researcher (well, Googler, but I know my way around an Encyclopedia as well), I went back and then Googled "Shiloh Fernandez 'Heart Wants What It Wants'" and got further confirmation from Cosmopolitan. They wrote, "Actually, can your heart want Shiloh Fernandez, Selena? He seems nice and you two would make a spectacular-looking couple." AGREED.

So there you have it everyone. The guy is 29-year-old Shiloh Fernandez, an actor who has appeared in the films Evil Dead and Red Riding Hood, and the television shows Jericho and an episode of Gossip Girl, among many other credits. (For those wondering, on Gossip Girl he played a character named Owen Campos who was on that weird flashback episode about Lily in the '80s.)
