Emmys Snub These Shows, But They Deserve Awards
At the Emmys, the same shows tend to win year after year. I'm not here to throw shade at Modern Family, Breaking Bad, or The Big Bang Theory, but it would be nice to see some other shows just be nominated. So when the People's Choice Awards come around every year, it's refreshing. With fan nominations and voting, TV fanatics decide who takes home trophies. As seen in the recently-announced 2015 People's Choice Awards nominations, some longtime shows like The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon a Time, and Pretty Little Liars are up for plenty of awards, and even a newcomer like How to Get Away With Murder has a nod. That's fantastic for those amazing programs, and they definitely deserve the recognition.
With such an extensive list of nominees, I can't personally speak to why all the "underdogs" deserve People's Choice Awards. So, instead, I've narrowed it down to five standout shows that should take the stage with a big win this time around. Keep reading to see the TV faves that have yet to ever be nominated for an acting Emmy, but should kill it in this fan-voted award show. And for all the nominations, check them out here.
Once Upon a Time
The fairytale drama is in its fourth season, but has yet to ever score an Emmy nod for acting. (Their costumes always get recognition, though!) With an incredible ensemble cast and constant twists and turns, it should win the People's Choice Award for favorite TV show.
Pretty Little Liars
This ABC Family mystery drama has yet to be nominated for an Emmy, probably because it's lumped into "teen TV." But with the insane twists and shocking storylines as the Liars search for "A," it deserves to take home favorite cable TV drama.
The Vampire Diaries
Again, this is a show that's known as a "teen show," so it doesn't get Emmy recognition. But both TVD and its spin-off The Originals deserve awards for the complex storylines and characters on the vampire dramas. It's clear that TVD should win favorite network sci-fi/fantasy TV show at the People's Choice Awards.
The Walking Dead
Ready for a shocker? The Walking Dead has never even been nominated for an acting Emmy — only special effects, prosthetics, makeup, and more behind-the-scenes awards. With an incredible cast and mind-blowing (sometimes literally) storylines constantly, this AMC drama should snag the favorite cable sci-fi/fantasy TV show award.
How to Get Away With Murder
This is the newest addition to ShondaLand Thursdays, but the Viola Davis-led drama deserves all the awards and accolades. It's more dark and twisty than Meredith Grey, and should win favorite new drama
