17 Celebrities Who Regret Their Tattoos, From Britney Spears to Adam Levine
I'm a big fan of tattoos, which makes my mother wildly unhappy. I have a few tattoos on the smaller side, and while my mother has begrudgingly made peace with them (I mean, she really had no choice — they ain't going away) I do, in some part, understand her concern. There's no guarantee that I will love anything I love today in 20, 30, even 50 years, and it makes sense to question whether I may regret my ink later in life. So far I don't (yay!) which makes me far more fortunate than certain celebrities. The following celebrities totally regretted getting inked, some so much that they had the offending tattoo removed. Check out our list of celebrities who loathed their tattoos.
Johnny Depp
Depp used to have a tattoo that said “Winona Forever,” in honor of then-girlfriend Winona Ryder. After their breakup the Lone Ranger actor had it changed to “Wino Forever.” Because wine really is forever.
Hayden Panettiere
The Nashville star loves the message of her tattoo, but probably wishes that someone spell checked the line before it was inked on her body. She currently has the Italian phrase “vivere senza rimpianti” tattooed on her body, which means “live without regrets” — except the last word, “rimpianti,” should be spelled with an I after the M. According to NY Daily News, the actress went through a removal process in 2013.
Britney Spears
The pop star allegedly had a Kaballah tattoo removed from her neck in 2008, during a particularly challenging time in her life, due to the fact that the tattoo “made her feel like a hypocrite.”
Kelly Osbourne
The Fashion Police co-host is tatted up — but maybe not for long. Osbourne started a laser removal process of nearly all of her 15 tattoos, including a keyboard on the outside of her arm, in November of 2013.
Megan Fox
Fox had her large tattoo of Marilyn Monroe’s face removed from the inside of her forearm in 2012, stating that didn’t want to associate herself with some of the more negative aspects of Monroe’s life.
Eva Longoria
Back when she was married to NBA player Tony Parker, Longoria had three tattoos honoring their marriage — one of Parker’s number, one of their wedding date, and one of his initials. She allegedly had all three removed after their marriage ended in 2010.
50 Cent
The rapper-turned-actor started a removal process on his tattoos in 2010 to cut down on the time he would spend covering them up in makeup while on set.
Pharrell Williams
In 2012 Williams told Complex that he was “young and dumb” when he inked his body, and is currently in the process of getting his tattoos removed.
Adrienne Bailon
The former Cheetah Girl admitted on The Real that getting a tattoo of then-boyfriend Rob Kardashian’s name on her butt was a huge mistake — probably because he cheated on her after she got inked.
Adam Levine
Levine can’t stand the tattoo on his right shoulder which was supposed to be a cool Russian heritage symbol. Instead The Voice judge said he thinks it looks more like a “cauliflower with a sun in the middle of it.”
Angelina Jolie
Jolie loves tattoos — just not ones of her ex-husband’s name. She removed her “Billy Bob” tattoo (in honor of then-husband Billy Bob Thornton) and replaced it with the coordinates of her six children’s birthplaces.
Tom Arnold
Arnold got a terrible tattoo of then-wife Roseanne Barr’s face on his chest, allegedly to save their dying marriage. Their marriage ended horribly regardless, and he considers the tattoo one of the worst mistakes of his life.
Christina Aguilera
Aguilera probably regrets getting the Hebrew initials of her then-husband Jordan Bratman inked on her elbow, considering that the pair split not long after she got inked. Of course, the tattoo also happens to mean “12” in Hebrew instead of “JB,” so even if the pair stayed together, the tattoo wouldn’t be ideal.
Mark Wahlberg
Wahlberg hated his tattoos so much that he allegedly took his kids to watch him get the tats removed as a deterrence.
Blake Shelton
Shelton considers his tattoo of deer tracks — which he got to represent his love of hunting — the “crappiest tattoo” in the world, mostly because the tracks are often mistook for lady bugs.
Melanie Griffith
Griffith decided to remove her arm tattoo of husband Antonio Banderas’ first name when they split in early 2014.
