Make a Last MInute Costume With Just One Accessory

by Jennifer Valdez

Halloween is here, and if you don't already have a costume, then this list might just be your best friend. Being the only person at the Halloween party without a costume is not only totally embarrassing, it's also totally inexcusable— especially when there are amazing last minute Halloween costumes you can make with just one accessory.

That's right — including the clothes and makeup you already have, you can create an entire costume simply by adding a single extra item. These outfits are as easy as throwing on a white sheet with two holes and calling yourself a ghost, but not quite as boring. So get into the Halloween spirit with these nine costume ideas that only require one (yes, one) little step. Honestly, it doesn’t get any easier than this, so no more excuses.

Not a huge fan of Halloween? Totally fine. But when you see everyone else parading around in their fancy costumes, you're going to wish you had at least tried to participate as well. And even if you don't have plans to hit up an amazing costume party or go trick-or-treating, at the very least you can dress up and stop by Chipotle in your last minute ensemble to get a $3 burrito. (If that doesn't sound scary good, I don't know what does.)

Now seriously! Go play dress up!

1. Straw hat = Scarecrow

From the neck down, you probably already have a few scarecrow pieces hanging around in your closet (plaid shirt, jeans, boots — who knew a scarecrow's look was so classic?). Draw a few stitches on your face, put on a straw hat (or any large brown hat), and you've got your costume.

2. Duffle Bag = Student Debt

This is one of the most creative (not to mention truly terrifying) costumes I've seen in a while, and it's so universal. Chances are every young adult has a duffle bag and student debt.

3. Onesie = A Who

This might be the only time you can get away with wearing your onesie outside of the house, so why not be a Who for Halloween? You'll have the most comfortable outfit and the coolest hair at the party.

4. Purple Balloons = Grapes

To make this creative costume, simply tie a bunch of purple balloons to a string, and wrap it around yourself. If you're the type of person who likes your personal space, this might be the perfect costume for you.

5. Red Bandana = Rosie the Riveter

If Beyonce wore it, you know it's cool. So tie up that bandana, role up your sleeves, and show off your strong feminist side this Halloween.

6. Red Cape = Little Red Riding Hood

If you already own a dress, just throw on a red hooded cape. If you want to get really fancy you can carry around a basket, but there really isn't much else that distinguishes Little Red Riding Hood (her name pretty much says it all).

7. Costume Makeup = Zombie

The best part about being a zombie is that you can wear basically any outfit as long as you have the right zombie makeup. Be a zombie bride, a zombie businessman, or a zombie school girl. The possibilities are endless!

8. Picture Frame = A Work of Art

You don't need to have your picture up in a museum to be a work of art. Just look your best, and show up with a picture frame. Nobody argues with a masterpiece.

9. Party Hat = Party Animal

Be the life of the party with this costume. All you need is a party hat, the right makeup, and animal print to pull off this party animal look, and you'll have a roar-ing good time.
