Admittedly, I'm a huge Bruce Jenner fan. This isn't even the first time I've shared this confession with the world. There was a past post where I contemplated which reality show he should try next. The reason I'm bringing it up again (besides the fact that he's the best cast member on KUWTK!) is because Bruce Jenner turns 65 on Tuesday and it's an occasion worth celebrating. From Olympic athlete to motivational speaker to reality star, he has an impressive résumé. While most of us may know him for that last title, the others are admirable accomplishments.
Before we go any further with this Bruce Jenner appreciation post, I've got to share a fact that blew my mind... His name isn't even Bruce! Nope, it's William. William! Bruce is his middle name, but still, I was shocked! I feel like he'd be entirely different person if he went by the name Billy Jenner, right? Or Willy or Will or Bill — so many possibilities that just don't have the same ring to it. OK, enough digressing. Let's celebrate Bruce's big day by rounding up his best quotes.
I could easily fill an entire article with quotes from Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but that'd really limit the scope of his words of wisdom. So instead, these are from more than just the TV show. You'll feel so inspired you may go train for a decathlon after... or just crash on the couch to watch reruns of KUWTK. Either option sounds like success to me!
"Why is everything with this family so difficult?"
Seriously, why is everything with the Kardashian family so difficult? Simplicity is key!
"In high school, you know how they have the ideal senior in the yearbook? I got 'best dancer.'"
And after all those years, he's still got the best moves. Obviously.
"If I wasn’t dyslexic, I probably wouldn’t have won the Games. If I had been a better reader, then that would have come easily, sports would have come easily… and I never would have realized that the way you get ahead in life is hard work."
Bruce is open about the fact that he has dyslexia. It's inspiring how this only caused him to work harder and really achieve success.
"If you’re stuck and you don’t know how to rise, don’t look outside yourself. Look inside."
Did I mention he's an author, too? This is a quote from his book, Finding the Champion Within . He goes on to talk about how fear shouldn't hold you back and if you focus on you, you can find your inner champion.
"Why do you guys have to take pictures of yourself all the time?"
Very valid question, especially since Kim Kardashian is publishing an entire book of selfies. Like, what's the point?
"I always felt that my greatest asset was not my physical ability, it was my mental ability."
Bruce is all about the brains, despite having great physical success too. This is an important lesson about how it's what's on the inside that counts.
"You will face obstacles. Don’t let them scare you. Fear is part of the game. Trying things outside of your comfort zone is essential, because your ability to grow as a person is directly related to the amount of insecurity you can handle. So be strong and fearless on this journey we call life."
This advice comes from a letter he wrote to Kendall and Kylie, filled with advice in honor of Father's Day in 2013. He also mentioned how proud he is of them. Such fatherly wisdom!
"Be true to yourself, be your own person — and be caring to others, as well."
Just like the previous quote, this comes from his letter to his daughters. It can be relevant to anyone and everyone. It's important to care for others, and he clearly puts family first.
"I learned that the only way you are going to get anywhere in life is to work hard at it. Whether you're a musician, a writer, an athlete or a businessman, there is no getting around it. If you do, you'll win — if you don't, you won't."
Hard work pays off and Bruce proves that. No wonder he's a motivational speaker.
Here's hoping his day is filled with lots of hand hugs (aka another great Bruce phrase)!
