Hands-Free Cookie Dunking? Yes Please!

by Lucia Peters

If you give a mouse a cookie, he’s going to want a glass of milk to go with it — but he’s probably going to get a little ticked off if he drops his cookie into the glass of milk. Good news, though: The answer to that mouse’s (and to your own) cookie-dunking prayers has been answered in the form of the Dunkin’ Buddy. All you have to do is fasten the device to your glass of milk, and you’ll never lose your tasty treats in a soggy, milky grave again.

The idea is simple enough, but I still can’t get over the fact that no one came up with it sooner. The creation of husband-and-wife team Kiana Machnicz and Jason Wells, the Dunkin’ Buddy itself consists of two pieces: A little cookie-size tray that fits inside your cup, and a magnetic piece that fastens the tray into place outside the cup. The device then allows you to raise and lower the tray using a handle on the outside piece. Fill your glass with milk, pop your cookie in the tray, and voilà! No more dropped cookies!

To be honest, I’ve never really had a problem dropping my cookies in my glass of milk…but I do regularly burn my fingers trying to dunk them in mugs of hot chocolate. To that end, just think of how many alternate uses you could come up with for something like this. Fondue for one? Soothing milk bath for your action figures? Essential tool in coordinating a hangout session with your Oreos and your Chips Ahoy? The possibilities are endless.

Unfortunately the project failed to meet its Kickstarter goal back in March, and its Twitter feed has gone silent. However, according to the Dunkin’ Buddy website, a round of coverage from media outlets like Good Morning America around the time of the Kickstarter campaign boosted interest in the device. “We can’t wait to fill all of the requests from people that want to own a Dunkin’ Buddy,” they wrote. “We have recently partnered with someone who we know is the perfect fit for our company. At this time, we are currently manufacturing the Dunkin’ Buddy, and getting ready to bring it to retail for everyone to use.” The final design won't be revealed until it's ready for sale, but hey, at least it's something, right?
