Switch up week really messed with Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy's chemistry. The couple was way off on this week's Dancing With the Stars, even getting into an argument during rehearsal. After a critique from Chmerkovskiy, Parrish complained that he wasn't telling her corrections in a nice way. He disagreed and stormed out of the room in frustration.
After weeks of what can only be described as a showmance, what could possibly have thrown the pair off their groove so much? The culprit has to be the partner switch. Last Monday Parrish danced a pretty sexual number with Artem Chigvintsev, and Val Chmerkovskiy was less than pleased. Although it read as joking jealousy at the time, it seems maybe there was more than met the eye. The first thing he said to Parrish when he got her back was that last week made him uncomfortable. "I don't want to celebrate with anyone but you," he told Parrish. "The distance for the week made me appreciate you a lot more."
Suddenly I'm thinking perhaps Val Chmerkovskiy does like Janel Parrish as more than just a dance partner. Of course that could complicate the friendship they have now. I wouldn't blame Chmerkovskiy for falling for the Pretty Little Liars actress, but it does add some tension to the situation.
Parrish herself even admitted that "the tricky part is not bringing those feelings into rehearsal." Did she mean she doesn't want him to bring any real feelings to the table since things were so good with them just as dance partners? Who even knows any more with these two, but it's clear there is some tension in the wake of the switch up.
Guest judge Pitbull picked up on this saying that there was a lack of passion between the two. That's almost unheard of for them, but maybe this was just an off week. Or maybe the feelings in rehearsal and the argument got carried over onto the dance floor.
All along I thought this was a mutual showmance, but perhaps he wants to make it more than that. This couple makes things so confusing because they're not just straight with us. Chmerkovskiy even refused to answer what is going on between the two of them. "Whatever feelings I have for Janel cannot be phrased in a [soundbite]. Sorry America," he said. "Stay tuned."
Hopefully what America is staying tuned for won't be more tension between the two, because they perform the best when their chemistry can be seen to the stage.
