13 Weird Facial Expressions From Politicians That We Can't Understand Or Explain
It's hard to keep a straight face all the time, even for politicians. They may have some of the most important and high-stress jobs in the world — this month alone, Obama has to deal with terror organization ISIS, the deadly Ebola virus on U.S. soil, continuous protests in Ferguson, and much more. Most people taking on this much pressure would probably have the same stern face plastered on day in and day out, kind of like this, but in another reminder that they're still people, politicians will occasionally let their faces loose.
From President Obama to his Russian adversary across the globe, the ever-stoic Vladimir Putin, these elected officials seem to have some pretty limber facial expressions. Former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin has so many wacky expressions, you have to wonder if she might not have full control over her facial muscles. The same can be said about Rob Ford, but his steady rotation of funny faces are less kooky and more "I'm kind of spaced out right now and smiling for no reason." And for former vice president Dick Cheney, a weird expression for him would actually be a smile, since he forms so few — but we did one better than that.
Take a look at some of the world's most recognizable politicians making some of the weirdest faces.
Vladimir Putin
This bug-eyed look is a rare moment for Russian president Vladimir Putin, whose picture should appear next to the definition for “stoic” in the dictionary.
Rob Ford
Is there a picture of the Toronto mayor in which he doesn’t look like this?
George W. Bush
Former president George W. Bush feels like the prettiest girl at the dance here.
Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton is easily excitable, but you would be too if you might become the first female U.S. president in history.
Joe Biden
Vice President Joe Biden usually exudes charm with that twinkle in his eye and his come-hither smile, but here it looks like he’s leading his troops into battle with an ice cream cone. Speaking of Joe Biden and ice cream cones…
John Boehner
House Speaker John Boehner’s expression here isn’t so much weird as it is seriously, incredibly sinister, devious, and creepy. He’s probably thinking, “Obama, I’ll show you my deadly virus.”
Sarah Palin
It’s hard to find a picture of former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin not making a weird face.
Mitt Romney
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is a pretty straightlaced guy, but maybe underneath that perfect coif is a guy who just wants to party sometimes. He comes out in his facial expressions from time to time.
Nancy Pelosi
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has a signature hand gesture and a signature eyebrows-raised expression to go along with it.
Dick Cheney
Former vice president Dick Cheney usually has a permanent scowl on his face, but when he’s chowing down…oh wait, never mind, the scowl’s still there.
Nicolas Sarkozy
The former president of France seems to disapprove of something, or maybe he just smelled something bad.
President Obama
“I’m done talking about fiscal responsibility. I just wanna get weird!”
