Big Changes Are Coming for Phaedra
It's sad to say, but it was only a matter of time before this happened. With numerous rumors of marital strife and on-camera blowouts, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks is ending her marriage to husband Apollo Nida. He just began his second prison sentence with eight years on charges of bank fraud and identity theft. In an exclusive statement to E! News, Parks rep said she "has retained an attorney with the intent of amicably ending her marriage."
Especially interesting in Parks' case is a Georgia state law that allows someone to be granted a divorce on the basis of their spouse being in prison for two years or more on a crime of "moral turpitude," an offense that "reflects a criminal defendant's wickedness." Fraud is including in this description, so this means that Parks could take this route as grounds to dissolve the marriage.
But seeing as Nida has only recently started serving his sentence, if Parks is taking action now, she'll have to go a different route. All that is know as of now is that Parks is considering the split "amicable."
It's likely that Parks did not want to take on any more of the emotional stress the marriage was causing, especially seeing as Nida's prison sentence is so long. I'm sure the decision was difficult for the reality star, and I wish her and her two young sons the best. She and Nida have two boys Dylan, 1, and Ayden, 4. This must be a lot for her to deal with. It is unclear how much of this will be addressed in the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Atlanta , but more details will likely come out as the Parks proceeds with the split.
