9 Important Lessons From Benedict's Twitter Q&A

by Martha Sorren

Some actors always carry an air of mystery around them and Benedict Cumberbatch is certainly one of those people. Without him being on any social media accounts, we're left in the dark about a great portion of his life. That's why it's always such a treat when he does reveal parts of himself in an interview or in this case, a Q&A as part of his promotion for World War II drama The Imitation Game. Before its London Film Festival premiere, Benedict Cumberbatch took over the film's Twitter account for 45 minutes to answer fan questions about the movie and about himself in general.

Cumberbatch did a similar thing in the past when he participated in a Reddit AMA. Although admittedly, that interview was a bit more amusing if only for the fact that topics had a wide range as opposed to being more focused on the film at hand. But we still got a nice glimpse into that gorgeous head of his and learned a bit more about him as an actor and person.

So because we know so little about what it's like inside that brain, here is my breakdown of the nine most important things we learned from his Twitter Q&A. But first, a picture of Cumberbatch preparing for this #AskBenedict event. Isn't he just so adorable?

HE HAD HIGH CHILDHOOD AMBITIONS

I learned what a barrister was about four seconds ago, yet Cumberbatch considered it for a career as a child. When my brother was a child he wanted to be a firetruck. Yes, a truck. Safe to say, Benedict wasn't your average kid. (Although, perhaps neither was my brother.)

HE SPEAKS FRENCH

Swoon.

HE IS BAD AT MATH

Yay! Something we have in common! (Incidentally Tom Hiddleston is also terrible at math, so maybe someone should check into the UK school system.)

HE'S A FAMILY MAN

Ugh, imagine when he has kids of his own. I bet he'd bring them to the film set because he'd miss them too much.

HE REALLY WANTS TO MEET HIS GRANDPARENTS

Such a sweet response.

HIS FAVORITE SUBJECTS ARE SO TELLING

It's no wonder he likes period pieces so much.

HE UNDERSTANDS MATTERS OF THE HEART AND MIND

I love that: "You can't do one without the other."

HE HAS A LOT OF FEELINGS

What a coincidence because I have a lot of feelings too, and it's all because of him.

HE'LL NEVER JOIN TWITTER

Sad face. But I can't say I'm surprised because it's true he does speak in big words and long sentences. Twitter's 140 character cap isn't really the best place for his thoughts.
