Kim Kardashian is a trailblazer. Before you laugh, it's totally true. She's the first person to create an entire book of selfies. (Brilliant business move, if you ask me!) She also launched her own video game, estimated to earn $200 million by the end of the year. And now, she's taking a stand on same-sex marriage — virtually, at least. Yup, gay couples can get married in the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game. She announced the news over Instagram with a little cartoon sketch, of course. This definitely deserves a round of applause, since she's more progressive than 26 states right now.
I'll admit I used to play the Kardashian game way too much. Like to the point where I'd be tired at work the next day because I stayed up late finishing a photo shoot. Hey, I was an A-list celeb with 96 millions fans that I couldn't disappoint! But I've been neglecting the game recently, so I haven't had a chance to test out the new marriage functions. Plus, my virtual boyfriend in the game dumped me since I hadn't called him in a while (oops!), so marriage might not be an option for me right now.
Still, even though I haven't played recently, I couldn't have been prouder when I saw Kim's announcement on my Instagram feed Monday night:
While this is wonderful news, there are still some aspects of the game that could be improved. Do the people you date really have to be so judgmental about your appearance? After all, it's what's on the inside that counts. Since I was curious if this part of the game had changed for the better, I re-opened my app for the first time in a few weeks (ugh, I lost 3 million fans!) to go on a "date." To my dismay, the first thing he said was how horrible my outfit was... by quoting a Shakespearean sonnet.
Disappointing (especially coming from someone in those sunglasses), but not enough to put a damper on the greatness of the gay marriage news. I never thought I'd say this, but can the government please follow in Kim Kardashian's footsteps?
