Miley Cyrus' VMA Performance Inspired These Insults from Celebrities
Miley Cyrus managed to shock multiple circles of the entertainment industry last night during her performance of "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines" with singer Robin Thicke. The shock still hasn't worn off for most celebrities and TV personalities whose responses today demonstrated the good, bad, and truly brutal reactions to the ex-Disney starlet's behavior.
Brooke Shields
On NBC's Today show this morning, Hannah Montana's onscreen mom, Brooke Shields, called her performance "desperate." The actress, who served as co-anchor today, played on her role as Miley's mom in the popular Disney show, asking, "Where did I go wrong?" Shields made it explicitly it clear that she does not approve of the direction the starlet's career is heading in. "I want to know who's advising her and why it's necessary," she added.
Billy Ray Cyrus
Proud or not-so proud father Billy Ray Cyrus was absent from his daughter's performance in Brooklyn last night, but nonetheless took to Twitter to chime in. "@billyraycyrus: Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ...less hate."
Kelly Clarkson
American Idol alum Clarkson, one of the many celebs that took to Twitter to express emotions ranging from disgust to horror over Cyrus' performance, tweeted: "@kelly_clarkson: Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words... #pitchystrippers"
Nia Vardalos
My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos posted on Twitter: "@NiaVardalos: Gotta go, Miley's at my door waving that giant finger and twerking my dog."
Alexa Chung
Television personality and model, Chung, was so disturbed by what she saw that she hoped she was dreaming. Or in this case, having a nightmare: "@alexa_chung: Just woke up from a nightmare about beetlejuice and a child in latex underwear grinding on him."
Mika Brzezinski
The Morning Joe host is definitely not a fan of Cyrus or her routine. Here are a few of her brutal comments from today's show: "That young lady, who is 20, is obviously deeply troubled, deeply disturbed ... probably has an eating disorder."
"They should be ashamed of themselves."
"She is a mess. Someone needs to take care of her."
"I feel terrible."
Jesse Tyler Ferguson
I'm sure Ferguson's Mitchell, a doting dad on Modern Family, would cringe at the thought of his daughter behaving like Miley in front of billions of people. The actor tweeted last night: "@jessetyler: I just watched the #VMAs & I know I'm going to have nightmares about Miley Cyrus playing a tiny harp where her 'red light area' is."
