Is This the Most Wearable Beauty Look From PFW?
The beauty looks coming out of Fashion Month have run the gamut from no makeup to totally over-the-top but what about those of us who like to live somewhere in-between? If you want to balance the bold with the neutral, consider trying the drawn-on lip rings from Dries van Noten S/S 2015. Fake piercings are having a moment, from Rihanna's false septum piercing to the glued on eyebrow rings at Rodarte's NYFW presentation, but you can easily stand out from the crowd by getting the look with product, not metal.
Makeup artist Peter Philips balanced a very simple, no-makeup beauty look without mascara or blush with a bold painted lip detail. According to the New York Times, he achieved the fake piercing with "a slick of Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Liner in Diamond Gold, applied via a fine MAC eyeliner brush." The resulting metallic stripe is really subtle, but it stands out as the only glint of color on the face. Lovely!
“It’s all about a modern girl who loves going to festivals like Burning Man,” Philips told the Times. "She’s a little alternative and she loves nature.” Basically, she's the coolest girl in the room. The playful makeup worked well with the Dries van Noten collection, inspired by John Everett Millais' famed Ophelia painting.
I can't wait to try this out. As someone who's allergic to metal, I'm a huge fan of the fake piercing trend because it means I can look like a badass pierced lady without putting my body in danger. But I've never considered using makeup to replicate body jewelry before! While not as realistic as the actual fake lip rings you can buy on Etsy, the painted-on lip piercing has a nonchalant, devil-may-care vibe that I'm always trying to achieve with my makeup.
