VMAs 2013: Taylor Swift Drops Expletive at Harry Styles, Shows She May or May Not Be Growing Up
Taylor Swift, she of flirty pink dress and flirty songs, gave us something new at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards. No, the songstress didn't perform — but she did show a different side of herself that might have proven she's matured after life at 22. But has Swift officially grown up? Let's stack up the evidence.
GROWN UP: Swift's Language
We would have never, ever, ever expected Swift to drop an f-bomb — until we saw the singer react to One Direction's Song of the Summer win by mouthing "Shut the fuck up" at her ex Harry Styles' band. For the record, Taylor — we agreed with you. VERDICT: Grown Up
NOT GROWN UP: Swift's Bitterness
Then again, foul language or no, a bitter Taylor is the same old Taylor. Remember "Dear John"? VERDICT: Not Grown Up
GROWN UP: Swift's Fashion
Typically favoring flowing frocks, Swift matured her fashion sense at the Video Music Awards, rocking a form-fitting bombshell gown. An interesting choice, when other musicians are dressed like this. VERDICT: Grown Up
NOT GROWN UP: Swift's Acceptance Speech
Accepting the award for Best Female Video for "I Knew You Were Trouble," Swift opted to thank the man who inspired the track for helping her win a VMA. Why not direct your thanks to the man who actually helped you nab the win, director Anthony Mandler? VERDICT: Not Grown Up
GROWN UP: Swift's Miley Cyrus Reaction
Obviously, Swift, like us, just wished Miley Cyrus would get off our lawns, based on her reaction to the insane performance. VERDICT: Grown Up
NOT GROWN UP: She's Taylor Swift
Foul language and bombshell fashion aside, we must remember this is still a woman who just recently released a music video in her pajamas. Clearly, in the spirit of the Video Music Awards, we can say the singer might not be a girl, but it seems she's certainly far away from womanhood. VERDICT: Not Grown Up
