17 Co-Stars Who Became Real-Life Best Friends
Hollywood is full of rumors about co-stars fighting on set. That's why it's so refreshing to find film and TV co-stars who not only get along, but consider themselves good friends long after their project has wrapped. Which famous co-stars remain good pals in real life? Check out the list of 17 pairs who went from sharing the screen to real life friendship off-screen.
Tina Fey & Amy Poehler
Fey and Poehler met at an improv class in Chicago in 1993. When Fey moved to New York to work as a writer on Saturday Night Live, she begged Poehler to join the cast — which she eventually did. The two would later star together in films like Mean Girls and Baby Mama.
Matt Damon & Ben Affleck
Damon and Affleck didn’t meet on set — they were buds from their Boston days, when they lived only a few houses away from one another. The two teamed up to write what would become the 1997 Oscar-winning film Good Will Hunting, which they also acted in. They teamed up as actors again when they starred in Kevin Smith’s 1999 film Dogma.
B.J. Novak & Mindy Kaling
Novak and Kaling met when they were writers and cast members on The Office, and dated on-and-off for several years. Today they’re best friends, proving that, yes, you totally can be friends with an ex. Novak guest starred on Kaling’s series The Mindy Project as a guy who doesn’t realize he’s in love with his girl best friend.
Vanessa Hudgens & Ashley Tisdale
Hudgens and Tisdale’s friendship blossomed in 2006, when both were cast in the TV movie High School Musical. Eight years later and these ladies are as close as ever — they even appeared together on the reality show Inner Circle to dish about their friendship. Even cuter? Hudgens was Tisdale’s bridesmaid in her recent wedding.
JWoww & Snooki
These two women met when they became roommates on the MTV reality show Jersey Shore in 2009. Now, the two co-star on new reality show about their friendship, Snooki & JWoww. The pair still sees one another almost everyday and both hope that their children will remain as close as they are.
Jennifer Aniston & Courteney Cox
Aniston and Cox met in 1994 when they were cast as roommates Rachel and Monica on the hit NBC sitcom Friends. Since then, the two have been through thick and thin — Aniston admits that she has slept in Cox’s guest bedroom while going through difficult times and that there is “absolutely no judgement” in her former co-star and current BFF. The feeling is clearly mutual: Aniston is the godmother of Cox’s daughter Coco.
Cameron Diaz & Drew Barrymore
Though Diaz and Barrymore would star together in Charlie’s Angels, they actually met at a coffee shop when both were struggling actresses. Barrymore says that today her and Diaz like to “bro out” and go on crazy adventures. Diaz recently proved her loyalty to her pal when a radio DJ interviewing Diaz made a joke about Barrymore’s history with substance abuse — the actress quickly snapped back at the DJ for his insensitivity and cut the interview short.
Seth Rogen & James Franco
The stars of the upcoming The Interview have also shared the screen with films like Pineapple Express and This Is The End, but actually met while working on a TV show. The two met in 1999 when they were cast on the series Freaks & Geeks and have stayed collaborators and friends ever since.
Donald Faison & Zach Braff
Faison and Braff’s bromance may rival the one between their Scrubs characters. The two met at a read through for Scrubs in 2001 and have proved to be the cutest best friends in the history of Hollywood.
Reese Witherspoon & Robert Pattinson
These two seem like an unlikely friendship pair, but the Water For Elephants co-stars really do care about one another. Witherspoon allegedly helped Pattinson deal with his girlfriend Kristen Stewart’s very public infidelity in 2012.
Brad Pitt & George Clooney
Pitt and Clooney met on the set of their 2001 heist flick Ocean’s 11 and have stayed close ever since — despite their ongoing prank war.
Anne Hathaway & Hugh Jackman
Hathaway and Jackman first met when Hathaway was hosting the Oscars in 2011 and teamed up again in 2012 for Les Miserables. Jackman said he “instantly” loved Hathaway when they met, and Hathaway admitted to admiring Jackman since his Broadway days.
Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake
Fallon and Timberlake became friends in 2003 when they did their very first Saturday Night Live sketch together. Timberlake even wrote Fallon’s essay for his spot on Time Magazine’s Most Influential People list, where he recalled Fallon heckling Timberlake at his own wedding.
Tobey McGuire & Leonardo DiCaprio
The stars of The Great Gatsby met at an audition when they were both up-and-coming actors — DiCaprio even admits to chasing McGuire down for his phone number so that they could stay in touch.
Michelle Williams & Busy Philipps
Williams met Philipps on the set of Dawson’s Creek in 2001, when Philipps snagged the role of Joey’s college roommate. The two have been close ever since, and Williams even took her old co-star as her date to the Oscars!
Chace Crawford & Ed Westwick
The Gossip Girl guys played best friends Nate and Chuck for six seasons on the CW series, and were best friends offscreen as well. Crawford and Westwick lived together in New York for years and were frequently spotted out on the town, prompting some folks to wonder whether it was just friendship between the TV stars. (Uh, it was.)
