They Were Headed for Splitsville Anyway

by Nicole Fabian-Weber

It's bad enough being cheated on, but being cheated and seeing a video of your significant other doing the deed with someone else — horrendous. So, it's no surprise that Britney Spears broke up with David Lucado the minute she found out about his videotapped tryst with another lady. But now Lucado is trying to go Ross Gellar on Spears. He's pulling, as TMZ perfectly put it, the "we were on a break" card. Seriously, dude? You're going to need a better story than that.

According to the site, Spears and Lucado had been fighting over Spears' "outside influences" for some time, and on August 6, she sent him a text message that said, "I'm done with you." Lucado apparently claims that he thought this meant they were broken up, so took it upon himself — the next night, mind you — to get it on with another lady and film the whole dang thing. But — plot twist! — Spears and Lucado apparently patched things up on August 8, the night after Lucado's fling. So, for one night, Spears and Lucado were broken up, so he technically didn't cheat on her — at least, this is the story he's sticking to. I agree, ridiculous.

But here's the thing. Sounds like this couple was headed for splitsville regardless, so, in a weird way, it's a good thing that they called it quits. Of course, it's a craptacular way to go out, but perhaps if Spears never got wind of Lucado's video, the two would have patched things up. Sucks that she had to go through this, but at least she's getting out of (another) bad relationship.

And nice try, Lucado. I honestly didn't think anyone had the balls to try the "we were on a break" excuse anymore.
