Mark Wahlberg on Why He Missed the Wedding
Just a week ago, my big brother got married to the woman of his dreams, and you can bet I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. So of course, it strikes me as being quite odd whenever celebrity weddings somehow turn into a big bowl of drama because some relative or another won’t attend their family member’s ceremony (ahem, Rob Kardashian and Brody Jenner). And I found it especially strange when I discovered that Mark Wahlberg missed his brother Donnie Wahlberg’s wedding on Saturday, Aug. 30, for reported reasons like his daughter’s birthday and filming for a movie.
Come on, people. This is your family we’re talking about! Although Wahlberg tweeted on Sunday to express his joy for the couple, while also posting an Instagram video of his family wishing them well, so many rumors have been circling this wedding, and whatever the reason, I still can’t see how someone would miss their own sibling’s happy day.
Among this rumor mill is the fact that Wahlberg and his wife Rhea reportedly don’t like Jenny McCarthy, his brother’s new wife. Although many sources have seemed to confirm this with TMZ, I don’t necessarily buy it, because would Wahlberg really go to the trouble of faking his happiness for Donnie with both a tweet and an Instagram post if he really didn’t like McCarthy? Maybe, but I’ve always been a fan of Wahlberg and he seems a lot more genuine — and mature — than to be passive aggressive like that.
So now we come to the other rumor that Wahlberg and his family had to stay in Boston so that he could film Ted 2 and to celebrate his daughter’s 11th birthday. Although I actually want to cry a little because if that’s true, he’s just proving how great of a dad he is, I’m still not sure if it’s the best reason to ditch a sibling’s wedding. Plus, I’m sure there are scheduling conflicts with films that I can’t even begin to understand because I’m not an actor, but I would imagine that someone like Marky Mark would have the power to ask the crew to hold off for one day to attend an important moment in his family’s life.
Then again, if he really despises McCarthy as so many people are claiming, I can see how his child’s birthday would take top priority since this is Donnie’s second marriage. Really though, all of this family conflict just makes me sad. Why can’t everyone just get along? No matter what, family is family.
