Joan Rivers' Daughter Has Released a Statement
Although Thursday started bright with the revelation that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had gotten married at last, the day came with the tragic news that Joan Rivers has been hospitalized after surgery complications. According to US Weekly, a source confirmed that Rivers had been placed in a medically-induced coma. While we wait for updates on Rivers' condition, her daughter Melissa Rivers released a statement shortly after her arrival in New York to be with her mother, thanking everyone for their well-wishes.
Melissa and her 13 year old son, Cooper, flew to New York Thursday morning and the pair are now at Rivers' side as she makes her way toward recovery. "I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother," read the statement. "She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."
Rivers stopped breathing during an in-patient throat procedure and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was eventually upgraded to stable. At the moment, things look dire as her condition is still considered critical even if she is stable, but at least Rivers is surrounded by family during this incredibly trying time. She has also been receiving an outpouring of love, support, and well-wishes from celebrities and fans hoping that she will pull through.
Rivers was up and on her feet as early as Wednesday night, promoting her book Diary of a Mad Diva. The surgery that resulted in her hospital stay is said to have been a minor endoscopic procedure. More updates on Rivers' health are still to come, but having her family with her is sure to help, even if it's just a little.
