Come Get a Preview of Her New Album
When Ariana Grande unveiled the track list for My Everything, it wasn't just her fans who were excited to see some of those songs. "A Little Bit of Your Heart" was the eleventh track on the list and it was particularly notable for being a track that was written for Ariana Grande by none other than Harry Styles of One Direction. If you know even a little bit about Styles, then you were anticipating the greatest love ballad on the planet — and let's just say both Grande and Styles delivered. MTV previewed four songs from My Everything, "A Little Bit of Your Heart" included, and Styles' fans just want to make sure you don't forget who's responsible for its existence.
The song is, as predicted, a beautiful love ballad, and Grande's vocals with Styles' words work beautifully in collaboration with another. According to an interview Grande did with MTV, she was actually brought to tears the first time she heard the song. "He went into the other room and they were writing for a while," she said. "I remember when I heard it I was like 'Wow that's a really strong verse, that's really beautiful' and then the pre, I was like 'wow that's a really beautiful pre, that's a really strong pre!' and then the chorus I was like crying!"
After hearing the song, it's not hard to see why. Slow and despondent, with lyrics like "I know I'm not your only, I'll still be your fool because I'm a fool for you", Grande put as much ethos into her voice as possible to make sure that we are crying with her. And Styles wrote this in just a day? Wow. Of course, now that we've heard what a collaboration between Harry Styles and Ariana Grande can produce, am I the only one who thinks the two of them need to collaborate again as soon as possible?
Apparently the collaboration is far from the point. The song trended on Twitter Wednesday morning, but appreciation for it seemed to be mainly focused on Styles' lyrical talent over Grande's vocals.
Although these fans were the vocal majority, there were a lot of fans who were willing to give equal credit to both Grande's vocals and Styles' lyrics for making the song such a success. Some were even willing to concede that Grande did an amazing job, but "A Little Bit of Your Heart" would have been better done as a duet. Would "A Little Bit of Your Heart" have been better if Harry Styles had sang it himself? That's a matter of opinion, really, depending entirely on which artist you're a bigger fan of.
Of course, considering the fact that Harry Styles has no plans to go solo anytime soon, no matter what rumor you may have heard about the band breaking up, this kind of collaboration is probably the only kind we'll see out of him. However, that's all the more reason for Grande's next album to feature One Direction on one of the songs. When Styles and Grande work together, magic happens. Adding all five boys of One Direction to an Ariana Grande song, or vice versa, might just break the Internet completely.
