I never thought I would see the day, but it looks like life has thrown another one of those funny little curveballs at us all. Apparently, Kim Kardashian's iPhone game no longer sits at the top of the Apple iTunes store charts, because another celeb helmed game is sitting there: Tom Hanks' Typewriter app Hanx Writer is number one in the App Store, both in its category, Productivity, and overall. Seriously impressive, considering Kardashian's iPhone game involves becoming an A-list celebrity and fighting with a (alleged) Paris Hilton look-alike. What does Hanks' app do? Turns your phone and/or iPad into a typewriter. Not exactly the stuff that Hollywood dreams are made of.
All joking aside, though, Hanks' app is pretty cool — it feeds into the nostalgia that most younger generations seem to have despite spending their entire lives surrounded by computers (who even remembers the last time they saw a typewriter IRL?), and it's designed well. Plus, it has a total advantage over real typewriters: If you make a typo, you can delete it.
Hanks' app is free in the App Store, but there are in-app purchases you can make once it's downloaded to upgrade your typewriter experience. Hey, if you're gonna spend your real money on an app, at least it's not on virtual clothes, right?
Sorry, Kimmy.
