Could This Be the Key to His Next Blockbuster?
Johnny Depp's career has been hit or miss, with a heavy emphasis these days on the miss. It seems like the greatest thing going on in his life is Depp's engagement to Amber Heard, because Transcendence did terribly at the box office and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 seems poised to ignore that there has been no such thing as a good Pirates of the Caribbean movie since the original Pirates of the Caribbean. However, his next project might just be the thing that turns it all around just by taking advantage of the heartwarming trend that cropped up in the wake of Frozen. Following in the recent footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, Depp and his daughter Lily Rose are doing a movie together and his daughter might hold the key to box office success.
The film will be called Yoga Hosers and, according to E! Online, it's a comic book action adventure movie that will also star father-daughter duo Kevin Smith and Harley Quinn Smith. It follows two young yoga lovers both named Colleen, played by Lily Rose and Harley Quinn, who "join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe to fight for their lives with all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time" when "an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada's crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party".
So, basically, it sounds like exactly the kind of movie that Kevin Smith would make. It even has an all-star cast that features Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey, and Orange is the New Black's Natasha Lyonne. Yoga Hosers is the sequel to a film called Tusks which will premiere at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival.
Now that things have calmed down, it might be jinxing us to bring this up, but everyone was there for the insane number of "Let It Go" and "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?" covers that went viral on the Internet after Frozen came out. The quickest way to go viral? Let a father and daughter cover a Frozen song together. Lily Rose is the eldest of Depp's two children and this will be the first time he's appearing on screen with either of them. Coming from the man who didn't want his children in show business, this is a big step.
It all honesty, it's likely that Lily Rose was getting interested in acting and Depp is simply pushing down his horror to give his daughter what she wants, but it's impossible to deny that this could be a big success for him. Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, was a box office smash the likes of which Depp hasn't seen in a while over the course of his career. And, let's be honest, we're all going to shell out the money to see it just to catch a glimpse of the adorable chemistry that Depp and his daughter will have.
