Gia Allemand Dies after Suicide Attempt

by Kate Ward

Following the news that Bachelor star Gia Allemand had died at age 29 comes an even bigger shock to fans of the popular ABC franchise: Allemand passed away following a suicide attempt.

Though friends and fans of the vivacious reality star were kept in the dark following her hospitalization Monday — when she was placed in critical condition following a "serious medical event" — the model's agent confirmed the cause of death on her website Wednesday. "While in her residency in New Orleans on Monday night, Ms. Allemand was found by her boyfriend, NBA Basketball Player Ryan Anderson, following an apparent suicide attempt," a statement to press reads. "Mr. Anderson contacted 911 and emergency medical crews were immediately dispatched to the scene. Tuesday, Ms. Allemand remained in the hospital unconscious in critical condition and on life support."

Allemand's agent reports that the family removed life support Wednesday due to "critical loss of brain and organ function," and the Bachelor contestant, an avid Christian, was read her last rites.

The statement remembers the reality star — who appeared on Season 14 of The Bachelor and on Bachelor Pad — as "a caring woman who loved her family and was well-known for her compassion towards animals." And fans of the Bachelor franchise would remember Allemand for her bubbly nature — the reality star picked up a reputation for her kind and lovable nature. We have no choice but to agree with Allemand's Season 14 Bachelor co-star Jake Pavelka for once:
