Robin Williams Has Died at Age 63

In news that is sure to shock many, reports are surfacing that Robin Williams has died. He was 63. Though it can't be confirmed at this juncture, reports are saying it was suicide.

The Oscar-winning actor was discovered at his Tiburon, California home on the morning of Monday, Aug 11. The death was initially announced by Marin County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division, who wrote that he was pronounced dead shortly after noon and that they "[suspect] the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia." An investigation will be conducted to confirm this.

Williams, a beloved comedian and legend in Hollywood, has long been open about his battles with depression. Williams re-entered rehab just last month in his continued battle with alcoholism.

Williams' death will come as a shock to many, considering the joy that defined much of his most famous work. Williams' wife, Susan Schneider, released the following statement:

This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.

According to Entertainment Weekly a representative of Williams' released the following statement commenting on his depression:

Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.
