A New Single From Hilary Already?
If you're not a big fan of Hilary Duff's comeback song, "Chasing the Sun," you're in luck — the singer might be preparing to release a new single already! On Thursday, Duff tweeted well-known pop music makers Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha, and Kristian Lundin and said, "Can't wait for everyone to hear our little secret..." Oooh, how cheeky! "Chasing the Sun" hasn't exactly exploded onto the charts, but it would be kind of strange for Duff to give up on it so soon. I mean, she just released the music video!
As I suspected, "Chasing the Sun" turned out to be a little dull for my taste, but it's not a bad song — it's just not the song I wanted Duff to make her triumphant musical return with. To be honest, I wouldn't be opposed to Duff quickly following it up with something a little more radio-friendly. After all, Falk, Kotecha, and Lundin are a pretty impressive songwriting and production team.
Falk is probably best known for his music with One Direction; Kotecha has worked with Christina Aguilera and he contributed to Ariana Grande's recent singles "Problem," "Break Free," and "Bang Bang"; and Lundin has crafted songs in the past for the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and even Britney Spears. Yeah, these guys definitely know their way around a pop song.
Based on some of these musicians' past work, what do you think we can expect Duff's mysterious new song to sound like? Let's see...
One Direction — "Heart Attack" (Falk, Kotecha, Lundin)
Probably my favorite song on One Direction's Take Me Home album...though "Kiss You" is definitely a close second.
One Direction — "Happily" (Falk, Kotecha, Lundin)
"Happily" has a folksy, stompin' beat that I could definitely see working with Duff's adult contemporary musical direction.
Nicki Minaj — "Starships" (Falk)
No, I don't think that Duff's new song is going to involve any rapping, but those summery guitars that open "Starships"? Totally possible.
Demi Lovato — "Really Don't Care" (Falk, Kotecha)
Lovato isn't a teen anymore, but that hasn't stopped her from making some really impeccable teen pop! I could totally imagine Duff singing a song like "Really Don't Care."
Christina Aguilera — "Your Body" (Kotecha)
Err, "Your Body" is probably too overtly sexual for Duff (the demo version of the song features the lyrics, "All I wanna do is fuck your body"), but you neeever know! She is a grown woman now.
Britney Spears — "Born to Make You Happy" (Lundin)
Yeah, "Born to Make You Happy" sounds too dated to work on the radio today, but it does show you the kind of "earworm" chorus Lundin is capable of creating.
Backstreet Boys — "I Want It That Way" (Lundin)
We're all in agreement that this is the Backstreet Boys' best song ever, right? Okay, just checking.
Hopefully we'll get some more details on Duff's "little secret" very soon!
