Sorry, Thor fans: It looks like we're all really going to have to wait a long while before we get to see Thor 3. That is, according to star Chris Hemsworth at least — and considering he's actually, y'know, in the movie, I think it's safe to say we can take his word for it. The heartbreaking news came up during the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, when Chris Hemsworth said that Thor 3 was "a ways away" due to Marvel's other film commitments. Specifically:
Yeah I got a lot of time. I don’t think it’s just yet, Thor 3. I think it’s a ways away.
Those sounds you hear? My sobs.
It does make sense, though, to be fair: As WeGotThisCovered points out, Thor 2 didn't perform majorly well in the box office, so it's possible Marvel is taking a step back for a while to focus on other films (like the sure to be successful, already well-reviewed Guardians of the Galaxy) and may choose to produce and release Thor 3 in future. It would give the franchise some time to build up excitement, too.
Still, it's sad thought to accept: We're gonna have to wait a super long time for more of this.
