Mark McGrath is Basically the Star of ‘Sharknado 2

Last year, a hurricane hit Los Angeles and sharks roamed our earth freely, killing anything and everything in their way, except Tara Reid. If a real hurricane hit, who better to survive than Tara Reid? Although the original airing of Sharknado wasn’t a hit, celebrities started tweeting about the movie turning it into a must-see movie of the summer. If you thought the fun was over, you were very wrong. Sharknado 2: The Second One is here and what you can expect of from the is more sharks and way too much Tara Reid. Reid isn’t the only ‘90s star to appear in the film though, because Sharknado 2 just wouldn’t be good without the likes of Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray.

When is the last time we even saw McGrath? Is Sugar Ray still a band? Can he even act? How old is he? What is he even doing now? We all have been secretly wondering where McGrath is now and he’s apparently been in NYC fighting off the sharks all this time. Back in February he announced his involvement with the project. Now that the time is finally here, we can really see his acting skills shine.

Is Sugar Ray still a band?

Believe it or not, Sugar Ray is still a thing. Two of the original bandmates, Murphy Karges and Stan Frazier, are no longer in the band, but McGrath and guitarist Rodney Sheppard are still going strong. They are currently on their Under the Sun tour, which runs through August. Last year, Billboard.com reported that Karges and Frazier were suing McGrath and Sheppard for multiple “series of self-serving and vindictive actions.” What exactly does this mean? Apparently, McGrath owes them a bit of money, and they even said that he stole some of the music they created together. There haven't been any updates on the lawsuit since it was originally reported in October, but if these guys are as pissed as they sound, I’m sure they're not going to let go easily.

Is Mark married?

Yep. That’s right, two years ago (basically the last time anyone heard anything about McGrath) the Don’t Forget The Lyrics host tied the knot to his very serious girlfriend, Carin Kingsland. He told People, "After 18 years of breakups, makeups, beautiful twins and an unwavering love that provided some pretty damn good song lyrics, we are happy to announce that we are finally married!” The couple met in 1994 and after almost 20 years of dating, finally settled down.

What else is he doing?

Besides Sharknado 2 and Sugar Ray, McGrath hasn’t really been up to anything else. He really doesn’t have to do anything else, does he? In 2013, he made a guest appearance on The Office and was in a CollegeHumor video this year. Maybe Sharknado 2: The Second One will reboot his career. Probably not, but my inner ‘90s girl can dream right?
