Aviva Throws Her Leg & Loses Her Credibility

If you've seen the trailers for the Real Housewives of New York Season 6 finale, then you've seen that it screeches to a halt when Aviva Drescher hurls her leg over a table at the rest of the ladies, who are once again confronting her, this time about her absence from the whole second half of the season. Aviva hasn't made things easy for herself. She's skipped both cast trips and made enemies out of Kristen, Heather, Luann, and Carole, while her uneasy truce with Ramona and Sonja just means that Sonja gossips to her about what the others allegedly said when she wasn't around.

The whole first half of the season set Aviva up as the villain, when she picked a fight over Carole supposedly using a ghostwriter. That spiraled into a half dozen screaming matches with Carole, a few with Heather, and ultimately yelling profanity at Kristen in front of their children. She then proceeded to use those fights as an excuse to avoid the rest of the cast in hopes of minimizing "drama." Once that wore thin, she came up with some new health problems, namely asthma, as her new excuse to stay home while the rest of the girls suffered through Montana.

So this is the key moment of the season. First of all, it's hilarious. Throwing her leg to make a point? That's pretty much the opposite of minimizing drama. Secondly, it comes across totally canned, like she was sitting in front of the mirror practicing these lines all night before the event. And third, it's just corny.

Let's break this down piece by piece.

It starts out with a clearly rehearsed line that Aviva has been just waiting to bust out once she runs out of argumentative gas.

Then, she comes up with a flourish made even more dramatic with the use of a prop — her artificial leg.

Look out, here comes the leg!

After slamming her leg on the table, she realizes the cameras can't get a good shot of it and then tosses it like a javelin onto the floor.

There it is, ladies. Aviva out.

What is going on with this woman? She's making a mockery out of the disability that she always seems so passionate about normalizing. Making "leg" puns, tossing it on the ground… it just seems almost desperate Actually, Aviva has some reason to be desperate — after missing so many episodes, Bravo's only reason to keep her on the show is so they can have a villain. But the cast has been humming along just fine without a set villain. Kristen, Ramona, Sonja, Heather, LuAnn, and even Carole — that is, everybody — have been bickering like crazy this year. In order to stand out, she had to resort to something extreme, hence the leg toss. Well, you got our attention back, Aviva.

But to do that, she's totally debased herself and basically made it impossible for her to be taken seriously again. We're with the Countess on this one. Very gauche.

The only thing this proves is that Aviva doesn't have a leg to stand on. Pun absolutely intended — because she'll probably make it herself by the time the finale is over.
