'Downton Abbey' Season 4 Needs One of These Sexy Men to Step Into Matthew's Shoes
The wait is over. Producers confirmed that Downton Abbey Season 4 will premiere January 5, 2014. It'll air first in the U.K., of course, but we here in Amurika will get to see how our Crawleys and our Granthams have been holding up come winter. While we're not wishing the summer away, the Downton premiere date does give us something to look forward to — we just can't wait to see how Lady Mary will fair this season. With (spoiler alert!) Matthew dead dead (actor Dan Stevens has left the show) girl will be on the hunt for love. Thankfully, it looks like she'll have a lot to choose from. During a press preview on Tuesday, the show's actors and producers assured that mourning Lady Mary will have plenty of guys knocking down her door. Here's who we hope will show up.
Eddie Redmayne as the Wayward Traveler
We can dream, can't we? Les Miserable star Eddie Redmayne would be a perfect addition to the Downton cast. We're not saying he needs to be in every episode (dude's got a solid film career, after all) but it wouldn't hurt if, say, he wanted to play a wayward traveler who gets lost and shows up to Downton and yada yada yada, he and Mary get it on, Turkish diplomat style (but without the dying.)
Hugh Grant as the Sugar Daddy
Mary's gone for older rich guys before, and there'd be no one better to play a mean old sugar daddy than Hugh Grant. Give this guy a three episode arch and let's see if Mary can resist his charming personality and absurd wealth. After all, he'll just be a boy, standing in front of a girl, asking her to love him.
Armie Hammer as the Heartbreaker
The Lone Ranger star (we'll forgive him that) would make the Downton ladies go nuts. They haven't had anyone visit the manor who's half as good looking as this kid, and Armie Hammer would be the perfect person to break Lady Mary's heart. Bonus points if he's able to play twins, ala the Social Network. The more Armie, the better.
Benedict Cumberbatch as the Groveler
The Sherlock Holmes star is an obvious choice for the fellow PBS series, but he'd beg to differ. Benedict Cumberbatch has totally bashed Downton Abbey , which is all the more reason we want to see him on the show, vying for Lady Mary's love.
David Boreanaz as the American Cowboy
The Bones star is a huge fan of the series, and tweeted: "I'd like to be that American cowboy who shakes things up at Downton Abbey. I'm open for a visit Mr Fellowes. #ITV @masterpiecepbs." Give this guy a contract, and a good pair of boots.
Simon Pegg as the Comic Reliever
This British comedian/writer/actor/amazingess would fit right in at Downton. Mary could use a laugh after all the tragedy she's endured, and Pegg's just the guy to bring it.
Prince William as a 1920s Prince William
Sure he's busy with that new baby of his, but a cameo wouldn't hurt, would it? All we need is Prince William to play someone who Mary swoons over from afar, knowing in her heart that she'll never get him because he's got his eye on tall non-royal with amazing hair.
Tom Ellis as the One
It's been reported that BBC star Tom Ellis has auditioned to play Lady Mary's love interest in Season 4, so this might be the guy who actually wins her heart. Coincidentally, It also might be the guy who Pete Samprass uses as a body double. I mean, they're twins, right?
