Usher's Custody Battles Persist After Near-Tragedy
Seems near-tragedy is not pulling Usher's family together. Just one day after news hit that the singer and The Voice star's 5-year-old son was hospitalized following a pool accident at Usher's home, the singer's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, is requesting an emergency custody hearing.
On Monday, Usher Raymond V required CPR from a contractor at Usher's Atlanta home when the 5-year-old's arm got stuck in a pool drain. (He was attempting to retrieve a toy.) According to a police report, the child's aunt and housekeeper were unable to free him, forcing two male contractors to rescue him. Usher was not present during the incident.
In a court filing, Foster's attorney claimed the latter point was the root of a serious problem. Said the papers, "the children are at risk while in the care of third-party caregivers...while (Usher) travels around the world for his work-related activities." A hearing has been scheduled for Friday.
This is hardly the first time Usher's relationship with Foster has gone South — last summer, a judge awarded Usher full custody of his two children with Foster, 5-year-old Usher and 3-year-old Naviyd, even after Foster accused the star of being an "absentee father." "We don't see eye-to-eye," Usher told Oprah Winfrey during a taping of Oprah's Next Chapter. "The friend that I was to Tameka, I don't know that I could ever be again, because I really felt like we were friends. She made us enemies in a way that I could never understood. It wasn't until I was on the stand, where I cried, when I realized, 'Oh, this is an attack.'"
