For those of us who came of age during the weird, strange time now known as the early 2000s, we all know only a few things can define that era: flip phones (remember how bad you wanted a Razr?!), American Idol, and Paris Hilton's friendship with Nicole Richie. The tabloids couldn't get enough of it, and, if you were a teenager growing up during the height of their BFF-ship, you couldn't either. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's break-up in 2005 may be considered the biggest split of the decade, but we all know deep down — it was actually the break-up of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie's friendship that defines the era. But, that's all in the past now, so it begs an important question: Have they made up for good now? In a new interview on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live to promote her upcoming reality series, Nicole Richie revealed that she is still friends with Paris Hilton, and will be for the rest of their (simple) life.
"I haven't spoken to her in a while technically, but, if you really want to get into it, my view of a friendship is someone that you don't necessarily have to talk to you every day," Richie explained. "It's somebody that you can call when you need them, and they’re just going to be there...The short answer to this is, I haven’t spoken to her in a while, but we are very good friends. I love her and I love her family. I have a lot of respect for her."
In other words: Yes, they are still friends. Phew! This pretty much echoes what Richie revealed on the subject of their friendship in a January issue of Marie Claire Mexico as well — so it's pretty much safe to say that they're BFFs for life. After all, I don't think it's possible to go through something like filming a reality show like The Simple Life together and not remain somewhat bonded for good.
