Hugh Jackman's Beard Is Crazy!
Hugh Jackman is apparently attracted to roles that require extreme facial hair, be it Wolverine or his upcoming role as Blackbeard. In fact, Jackman was nearly unrecognizable with his new beard and 'stache combo at Wimbledon, as The Daily Mail pointed out. Plus, with those shades, it's like who the hell are — wait for it — Hugh? Haha, get it? I'm so sorry about that one.
Anyhow, while we can plausibly wager that Jackman and his wife Diane just really wanted to go to Wimbledon totally incognito and watch Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic duke it out on the tennis court, it's pretty certain that this beard is in preparation for his turn as Blackbeard in his upcoming Peter Pan movie, as he's already shaved his head for the role.
However, something's not right: The legendary pirate Blackbeard famously had a very, very, very, very long pirate beard. This beard that Hugh is currently sporting is rather short, and the real star of this facial hairstyle is the mustache, rather than the braid-able wizard-length beard itself. Perhaps Jackman will be getting the beard version of a wig? Or perhaps his version of Blackbeard dons a sort of shorter beard and 'stache look, making him a tad less mountain-man hipster than his legendary counterpart.
Both are totally viable options, but we'll have to wait until pics from the movie come out to clarify the bearded state of Blackbeard. For now, we can just take a look at the barely recognizable Jackman.
For a comparison, Blackbeard famously looked like this drawing:
Or this Jack Sparrow-esque incarnation:
You can bead that beard!
Props to Jackman for the ultimate disguise at Wimbledon, and either way, we can't wait to see Wolverine get his pirate on.
