Katy Perry Sets Her Hair On Fire

by Sam Rullo

Looks like Katy Perry's days of living in a neon candyland are over. The singer released a short promo video for her upcoming single "Roar," the first from her album Prism, which is set to be released in October. In the clip titled "Burning Baby Blue," a serious Perry, in more subdued makeup than usual, sets fire to her bright blue "California Gurls" wig. This video alone may not be enough for Perry to beat Lady Gaga's new album ARTPOP when it debuts just a few weeks later, but it's definitely got our interest.

A darker image could be just what Perry needed to rejuvenate her career and compete more directly with Lady Gaga. Recently we've been hearing more about her personal life than music, and another cotton candy album wouldn't have been much to get excited about. But if her Teenage Dream image taught us anything, it's that Perry really throws herself into a theme when she gets one. If she can stay as committed to the seemingly darker Prism as she has been to her whipped cream phase, Perry should have another string of hits coming.

Check out the video below and see if you're on board for Perry's latest, dessert-less transformation. Are you digging it, or are you simply left hungry?
