When Kesha's August 2014 Teen Vogue cover landed, the singer, pop music's resident dirty girl and newly installed reality show judge, was nearly unrecognizable. With shaggy bangs, white hot hair, and a smattering of brownish freckles sprinkled across the bridge of her nose, she looked totally different but still naturally beautiful. It was photographic evidence of how freckles can be transformative and definitive. The always troubled train wreck who goes by the proper name Lindsay Lohan, who is again attempting to revive her acting career with a theater role in Speed the Plow in London's West End, takes turns both owning and hiding her generous supply of freckles.
Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat is heavily freckled, which makes her stand out in a sea of flawlessly-faced-by-way-of-cosmetics stars. Emma Stone, being fair, is also a freckled gal, as is the newly preggers Rachel Bilson, all to varying degrees.
While many freckled gals try to cover up the tiny spots with concealer or foundation, I totally applaud these lovely ladies for letting theirs take center stage while adding some color to their faces and visages. Freckles are not beauty imperfections; not to sound all sapped out, but they really are what makes you unique!
Sometimes I wish I had a few sprinkled across my nose and you know what? I am sure that there is a beauty or cosmetics company perfecting a product that helps create faux freckles as I type this. There may very well be one in existence that has yet to cross my desk.
Here are eight instances where celeb freckles asserted themselves in completely gorgeous ways.
1. Kesha
Yes, that's actually Kesha. I know. I did a double-take, too. Her nose and cheek freckles make her look so youthful and earthy. She looks great after battling back from an eating disorder and rehab.
2. Lindsay Lohan
Li Lo is one of the most famous freckled celebs and she seems to have a love-hate relationship with her spots. The star, who I have often referred to as a "former actress," since, really, what's she been in lately that's credible, a stance I may have to alter due to her upcoming stage role, is a fan of using color on her face. She often ODs on self-tanner and bronzer, morphing her usually fair skin into something resembling leather luggage from the '70s. But even with the layers of bronzer, her freckles still show through. She'd look so much prettier if she ditched the eterna-tan, which ages her by at least a decade, and spotlighted her frecks. You can see them here on her face and her shoulders.
3. Emma Stone
Emma Stone is often seen with nearly airbrushed skin, but she does have loads of freckles hiding underneath all the foundation. You can see some of them here! She looks totally amaze when she lets them peek out.
4. Alia Shawkat
The Arrested Development actress has loads of freckles distributed all over her face, from her nose to her cheekbones to her jawline. There is something so fresh about letting all of her freckles "breathe" instead of burying them under product, which would make it obvious that she was trying to mask them. Know what else is beautiful about Shawkat? Her confidence, which is apparent as she shows off a minimally made up face.
5. Olivia Munn
Yeah, so Olivia Munn is blessed with strong features, from her brows to her eyes to her lips. But her freckles, which dot her forehead and the bridge of her nose, add another element of character to her face. No wonder she bagged the NFL's hottest eligible bachelor, Aaron Rodgers.
6. Rashida Jones
Rashida Jones, who always plays brainy hot chick roles, is such a unique beauty and the sprinkling of freckles on her nose only enhances her super cute, "real girl" vibe.
7. Lucy Liu
Charlie's Angels' star Lucy Liu has a dusting of freckless on her nose and cheeks. They aren't super prominent but they add a slight and beautiful contrast to her skin tone.
8. Rachel Bilson
It's not often that we see Summer Roberts, oops, I mean Rachel Bilson showing off her freckles, but she's got 'em. This natural, and, well, summer-y photo of the actress shows off her amazing lashes and her befreckled nose and cheeks. They are subtle and she should show 'em off even more.
