Carrie's Crimes Are Still Under Investigation

by Aly Semigran

It was announced on Wednesday that Emmy winner Sarah Jessica Parker will be returning to television in a limited-run series called Busted , and we couldn't help but wonder how this will stack up to her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City.

The 49-year-old actress is attached to star as one of the leads for Busted, which is based on the real-life story of Philadelphia reporters Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker who uncovered a huge police corruption scandal. Their efforts, which were published in the Philadelphia Daily News as "Tainted Justice", won Ruderman and Laker the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting. It was later turned into a book, Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love, which Sidney Kimmel Entertainment has now optioned for TV. (The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel is slated to direct the pilot, while Marley & Me scribe Don Ross will write it.)

Okay, we don't know about you, but we're already on board with this show. If Parker — who knows a thing or two about female-lead shows — wasn't enough incentive to watch (she was a total delight on the Season 4 premiere of Jerry Seinfeld's web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee ), the story of Ruderman and Laker's courageous piece of journalism most definitely should be.

This should prove to be a refreshing change of pace for Parker, not only because this a meatier and much more serious role, but because this time she'll be the one stopping crimes. And Carrie Bradshaw, in case you forgot, was something of a criminal. Okay, technically she only got a ticket for smoking in public (in her defense, she was broken up with via post-it note), but there were worst offenses than that. Before she reveals corruption on Busted, here were SJP's Carrie Bradshaw's worst crimes on SATC.

Crimes Against Fashion

Yes, Carrie Bradshaw was a fashion icon, but she also made some of the most dumbfounding and downright horrendous fashion choices imaginable. For every big hit (flower pins!), there were epic misfires that not even Sarah Jessica Parker, a fashion icon in her own right, could make look good.

Crimes Against Self-Awareness

Seriously, Carrie Bradshaw may have been one of the most self-absorbed characters in the history of television.

Crimes Against Journalism

Somehow Carrie was one of the most popular columnists in all of New York City, in spite of writing lines like "Are men just women with balls?" and "Are men in their twenties the new designer drugs?" We couldn't help but wonder how anyone would read that.

Crimes Against Romance

For someone who professionally wrote about love and relationships, she really had a knack for screwing up the best one she ever had. That's right Mr. Big fans, but Aidan reigned supreme. And granted, Aidan technically broke things off with her both times they split, it was because she cheated on him and refused to commit to their engagement, respectively. If there was any greater punishment for this crime, it was that her rebound after their final break-up was Jack Berger.

Actual Crimes

As we previously mentioned, Carrie ran into real trouble with the law when she was busted for smoking pot out in the open. She was put in the back of a cop car, but the arresting officer had a heart when he found out she was recovering from the Great Berger Break-Up.
