Don't Expect This Fantasy To Come True
From what we've seen so far on The Bachelorette, I have mixed feelings on self-proclaimed "Pantsapreneur" JJ O'Brien. I want to like him — I really do — but there's something about him that rubs me the wrong way (and has since the beginning of this season). When you Twitter stalk him, you quickly find out that JJ is no ordinary dude. After all, his profile pic is of himself as a teddy bear. But that's not what set off the alarms for me — it's more that I'm confused as to why he'd be a guy in the running for Andi's heart to begin with.
On paper, he seems like a cool dude: Cute, funny, quirky, and definitely never boring. He's good looking, and he definitely seems to have his shit together — and he's obviously very creative. Have you seen his designs? He'd have to be. And I could see Andi looking for someone enterprising like JJ to spend her life with. But I guess when it comes down to it, I'm not a huge JJ fan because I just don't think he's right for our girl. Why not?
He's just way, way, way too out there for Andi.
While it's definitely true that opposites attract, Andi and JJ are just too opposite for a long term relationship to work. Andi's a grown up, and she wants her life to reflect that. JJ's a grown up, too... just in a different way. He wants to make his life colorful and whimsical and as much like a Tim Burton stop-motion movie as possible, and Andi wants to have fun while also reminding everyone that she is Serious and In Control Of Her Own Shit (except the part where she apparently quit her kickass job). Andi would probably do better to find someone she has more in common with.
And he seems a bit disorganized.
Have you seen the picture he recently tweeted of his messy, semi-disgusting desk at work? Andi wouldn't stand for that for a minute.
Plus, if we're thinking in realistic terms, it's just not going to work out.
I know, I know — the real world has no place in reality television. But long after we've forgotten about this season of The Bachelorette, Andi's going to have to live with the decisions she made while she was on the show and the guy she chooses is (hopefully) going to be around for that too, which means she's gotta pick a guy who's going to fit in well with the life she's already built for herself. And since JJ lives in San Francisco where his entire business is based, I don't think he's going to be willing to pack up and move to Atlanta — and I don't think Andi wants to relocate, either. She's a family gal, and I can't see her leaving her hometown.
And I don't think Andi's who he's looking for, either.
In a video on ABC's website, JJ talks about how badly he wants to find someone to share his Pantsapreneur lifestyle with — and it sounds like his ideal woman would be someone who wants to work with him on his crazy clothing designs. Andi's already got a career path worked out, and she seems to be pretty good at her job (she's got to have something lined up post-quitting the Atlanta D.A.'s office, right?). JJ, find another free spirit with a passion for pants, and happiness will be yours.
