To those of you who ever found yourself struggling on a night out, cornered by a suitor from whom you can't escape, fear not: Bell Hooks, feminist author and social activist, is now available for backup. Thanks to the new “feminist phone intervention” service, if you find yourself in the unfavorable scenario of having a guy aggressively ask for your information, you can now provide the offender with these fake digits: (669) 221-6251. Anyone who calls or texts that number will receive an automatically-generated quotation from the Hooks. What could be better? You can escape safely, and he'll get an education. I just tried it, and was told:

“If any female feels she need anything beyond herself to legitimate and validate her existence, she is already giving away her power to be self-defining, her agency.”

Not bad.

The creation of the phone number was announced in an email sent by an anonymous New Yorker. The email explained that these "feminist intervention" services are in the process of expanding: “We are thinking of putting up a gmail account too, which would automatically respond with 'Thank you for your note. However, I am away on vacation — from the patriarchy.'"

Spread the word — this girl is good.
