He Might Actually Not Be Dating Meryl

Apparently you really don't go Jessica Simpson when you've got Rihanna. After months of leading Dancing with the Stars fans on with his chemistry with partner Meryl Davis, Maksim Chmerkovskiy might be dating Jennifer Lopez. No, I'm not kidding. On Wednesday, People reported that the recently single J.Lo — like, really recently — has been cozying up to Maks while promoting her new album A.K.A. So, I guess it's time to put down our torches for Maks and Meryl's beautiful romance.

According to sources, J.Lo met Maks through her friend, Leah Remini and Remini's Season 17 DWTS partner Tony Dovolani. And Maks later danced with the 44-year-old singer during her performance at the 2013 American Music Awards. Should we have seen it coming this whole time — did Maks use Meryl as a cover to keep attention off his growing romance with J.Lo? God, I hope not.

But all hope isn't lost just yet, Maksyl fans — People reported that the couple "are taking it slow due to work commitments." Which makes sense, considering Maks recently flew off to Dubai for what we assume is India's DWTS and J.Lo's busy tearing it up in Brazil for the World Cup. A friend of J.Lo and the professional dancer told the site, "They are friends and have been talking." So maybe they really could be just friends?

That would explain why J.Lo and Remini attended Val Chmerkovskiy's 28th birthday party in L.A. back in March along with 70 other guests. Especially since no one seemed to see the couple canoodling at the bash. People's source, who's apparently a friend of J.Lo, didn't confirm or deny that the talented duo would go public with their relationship. But rather said, "I think they could. Who knows what will happen?" And I can imagine that sentence coming out with a telling smirk.
