Is She the Next Audrey Hepburn?

At the top of the list of teens who make me wonder why I wasn't way cooler in high school stands Tavi Gevinson, who recently turned 18 years old. She's strange and quirky, smart, precocious, friends with Lorde, and basically everything I've ever wanted to be. And, oh yeah, she gets the coolest birthday gifts. For example, Winona Ryder sent Gevinson a pair of Audrey Hepburn's gloves to celebrate her 18th rotation around the sun.

That sentence was actually physically painful for me to write because I worship Winona Ryder in a way that borders on complete insanity. I live my entire life trying to be as much like Veronica Sawyer (Winona's character in Heathers ) as humanly possibly without actually having to kill anyone. Had Ryder gifted me those gloves, I'm pretty sure I'd be president by now. Or at least a president of something. But noooo. They went to Tavi. "I'm not even bitter," I say, as I burn a pile of "Free Winona" t-shirts and weep.

But I digress. I should be applauding Ryder's choice, because Gevinson is really the perfect recipient for such a gift. She and Hepburn have a lot more in common then you might expect. Gevinson might be kookier than Hepburn, but both have an enduring sense of style and grace. Here are all the ways Tavi is just like Audrey.

She knows how to work a hat

And most importantly... she dresses for herself!
